The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Quite the movie...

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari) is a 1920 German horror silent film. The film is about an insane hypnotist who uses a somnambulist (basically a sleep walker) to commit murders. There is not much to say about the story itself when that is really all of the basic plot. The movie is more of an art form as were most silent films at the time. Since there are no words except the occasional frames with dialogue in them, you can imagine that the acting was very passionate and had to speak for itself.
It's a horror film, yes, it is actually scary. It's not your "something popped out of the closet" kind of scary. It's a psychological kind of scary towards the end and a suspenseful scary in the beginning.

If you notice in silent films when the frames are edited you can see where somethings are cut out. It's kind of hard to explain, but if you understand what I mean then you'll know what I'm talking about. If you do get what I'm saying, then you'll know that the way the frames are edited (most likely NOT on purpose) adds to the creepiness.

I'd like to say that I wasn't going to watch the whole thing, because I thought it was going to be boring, but it was great. 4/5

If you do decide to watch this movie, you'll love the ending.

Also, the actress Lil Dagover is very pretty:

Here's the film. Hope you enjoy:

Legless

Amazingly I Came Up With This Story, Because Of My Friend's Pain...

My friend B***** had told me a story of an injury she received during her kick-boxing class and she said that her legs hurt really bad. When she told me this, I said, "What if they have to amputate?" and then she replied by saying, "That is my worst fear, because kick-boxing is my life and without legs I couldn't do it anymore." Then my writer's mind started processing this, "What if I made a story about a girl who couldn't feel her legs?!" This is that story and I hope you enjoy. Please leave comments  or feedback and share this link. Thank you!~
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She stared down at her legs and she could feel them there, but for some reason as she touched them she could not feel any sensation that her hands had been there. She wondered what was wrong with her, that maybe she was hallucinating. Maybe she was paralyzed! But no, she was not paralyzed for she could move with ease, but she could not feel herself moving. She could see her legs do the movement, but she could not feel them so to her it was basically like floating.

“Amelia, something’s wrong with me?” she told her friend as she was done walking up the stairs.
“What?” her friend asked.

“I can’t feel my legs!” she told her friend.

“Prim, that’s crazy,” her friend replied. “You must be having a pretty bad day.”

“Whatever,” Prim said, disregarding her friend’s comment. She thought Amelia would feel some sort of alarm from the fact that she wasn't able to feel her legs.

“I mean you walk with your legs, imagine I stopped walking!” Prim thought in her head. Her face contorted into a frown and Amelia noticed but paid no attention.

No one paid attention. Prim was a girl that was very strange, so people really never did try to pay attention to her anyway. You could ask anyone in the school and they’d tell you Prim was the freak with an obsession of drawing the goriest things she could think of.

So what was it that she didn’t take this situation and make it into something she could draw? In fact, it was actually in the back of her mind to make a gruesome drawing of a girl being amputated. And of course, she drew it. She drew and she drew and she drew until her class was over and when class was over her drawing was complete.

It read Prim all over it. It had the essence of all things Prim. It was Prim!

“Prim, don’t you think that maybe you’re taking your umm, illness, a bit too far,” Amelia suggested to her.

“No, not really,” Prim replied sliding the picture into the front cover of her binder. She wanted everyone to know how she was feeling at the moment.

“I think it’s a bad omen to do something like that and not expect it to really happen. I know you’re all about death and gore, but do you really think drawing out your fate is going to help you survive this strange case of paralyzation of the legs.”

“No, and since when did you start believing in bad omens,” Prim said leaving her friend alone and going to the stairwell where she could be left to her own thoughts.

“My legs are probably going to be amputated by some fabulous doctor that will find pleasure in severing them to the best of his abilities. Yes, that seems ideal.”

She walked home, still floating and then she saw it. The evil doctor she had pictured in her mind. He was almost too real that she for a second didn’t think she was hallucinating. That it could in fact, be real life!

“Are you my deadly doctor?” Prim said enthusiastically.

“I’m a doctor, yes, but I was sent for a girl who could not feel her legs,” he said.

“Oh, you’re real,” Prim said.

“Well, of course I am,” he said.

“Hmm, my legs, I can’t feel them, but I thought you were fake, because I pictured you earlier this morning. Seems I’m a bit of a clairvoyant, aren’t I?”

“Shall we go,” he said.

“I never go with strangers to strange places, but…I guess I’ll make an exception,” she said taking a fancy to her doctor. That startled her that she could find someone as strange as her. She made it a point to impress him with her peculiarities.

“What’s your name?” he asked her.

“Prim,” she said. “And yours, Mr. Doctor?”

“Well, it most definitely isn’t Mr. Doctor. I have no name. Never will either, because I find names to be one of the stupidest creations made by man. Who cares what name we are given? We are all the same person with or without a name. Names just give identity and they are soon to be accustomed to clichés. Would we really want to live in a world with clichés?”

“No, I don’t think I would like that. Everyone at school, thinks that since my name is Prim, I should be very…uptight. But I am in no way, shape, or form uptight. I might be particular about how I like something, but never uptight.”

“I understand,” he said. They’d arrived at the hospital. It was Prim’s kind of place. Abandoned just like how she felt on the inside.

They stepped inside the hospital and inside the lights flickered, the beeps of heart monitors soon stopping to make that dreadful long beep. Oh, it was everything to her to hear that noise.

“If only I had my sketchpad with me, then I could draw all the miraculous things I was visualizing in my head right now. How awful, that I did not have it with me!” she thought.

“So we’re going to amputate these darling legs of mine, are we Mr. Doctor?” she asked.

“Well, seeming as you are fond of the idea, why not?” he said smirking.

“I’m fond of the idea, but that doesn’t mean I’m feeling…up to the task,” she said smirking back.

“No, you’re ready,” he said taking her into a room. “You’re ready for my wonderful surgical saw to cut into that skin.”

“That’s quite suggestive,” Prim thought in her head but she nearly said it out loud.

He took out the surgical saw and it seemed to glow in the flickering light of the hospital room. He cut into her legs and the pain that she experienced was unbearable. Why had she even thought of this as a wonderful experience, no it was absolutely horrible. She wanted to scream in pain, because he hadn’t even used an anesthetic on her. What kind of doctor would this?!

She’d asked for it though.

Soon, she blacked out and woke up in a bed with blankets keeping her warm and a soft pillow to keep her comfortable. It wasn’t her own room, but she felt like she had been in there before.

“Thank goodness, it was simply a dream,” she said and then the doctor came into the room. He eyes widened and she started shaking.

He said, “Are you fine? Do you feel anything?”

“No, I don’t,” she said. “Can you please go? I must do something.”

“Of course,” he said with the same smirk he had given her last night.

When he left the room, she slowly lifted her blankets and looked underneath them. What she saw, was nothing. She no longer had legs. She would never be able to walk again.

“Why, oh, why, did I wish for such a dreadful thing?!” she asked herself her voice beginning to quaver.

And as if her body had finally realized what was going on, a loud scream left her mouth and filled the whole hospital with nothing but the agony of a hopeless girl.

The Dream World

She stared blankly at the snow that was playing it's fuzzy noise on the TV. For some reason that noise always calmed her down when she couldn't sleep. It was like a background noise that for some reason was able to sink her mind into a different world. It was like she was in a different world completely, when she heard the snow on the TV. After all, the dream world was a place not to different from the real world. Really, the only difference was that in the end the dream world was a place that could be controlled or not.

That's why tonight, she stared intently at the snow to see if anything would happen. To see if a hand would come out and take her into the dream world or if someone came to sweep her by her feet and just make her day complete by escorting her to a magical place that was part of her beautiful dream world.

No, none of that happened. She didn't expect it to happen, so slowly as her eyes became heavy listening to the snow for such a long time, she fell asleep in her bed...

The next moment, she was awake, but not really. She was in that dream world she'd loved her whole life.

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" she yelled looking at the place in discontent. "HONESTLY I STAYED UP ALL NIGHT JUST WAITING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AND THE MOMENT I FALL ASLEEP I'M HERE!"

"Well, you can't just get into the dream world without falling asleep unless you can sleep with your eyes open, but that is quite a difficult skill to acquire," one of the sprites in my mind said as it flew around me.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," I said flicking it away to somewhere else far from here.

Of course, in the dream world it never mattered how she acted to whoever was there. She pushed them around and she told them to disappear or to shut up or to bleed to death and they would, because she cared for only one person and one person only, herself.

"Young maiden, will you help me?" a woman asked her.

"With what?" the girl asked wishing to be out because the dream world never truly interested her. It only interested her in the beginning, but it was all a child's fantasy in her eyes now.

"Well, you see I can't seem to pick any apples from the tree over there," the woman said.

The girl rolled her eyes and said, "Look, here are your apples!" The apples fell on the woman's head and she lay unconscious on the floor. "Too bad, she seemed really nice, too." The girl laughed as she continued to walk in the magical land that seemed to be in ruins after she arrived.

"You know, you should probably help us not hurt us," another sprite said buzzing around her face.

She squashed this one and wiped the blood on her skirt that she intended to suffocate one of the villagers with if she had nothing better to do.

"Miss, miss, my brother's been hurt can you help him?" a young girl, no older than four it seemed asked.

"Ah, he's been hurt and you want to help him?" the girl asked with the most sincere tone in her voice.

"Oh, yes please," she said begging on her knees.

The girl took out a magic wand and tapped it on the head of the girl and then the head of the boy. "He's all better, but now you have to pay the price."

"Brother, it hurts, my body hurts all over!!!" the child wailed wishing she had never approached the girl.

"HEY STOP IT!" another sprite said. The girl tried to knock this one away, but found it hard when she realized he was very quick and seemed to have fast reflexes.

"You're just a sprite, you can't do anything about it," the girl said. "This is my dream world, not yours!"

"It may be your dream world, but I can put you in shock and that will send you into a wave of compulsions on the outside. You won't be able to do anything about it and you'll never be able to return to the dream world. I beg of you please, don't hurt anyone else."

She rolled her eyes and ran away to a secluded area in the forest. It was quiet except for the sound of a crying baby. She looked at the baby and saw in his eyes innocence. She looked at this innocence and smiled maliciously at him. She saw that she could harm the baby in so many ways. She thought, "Why not?! It's my dream world, I would never do it in the real world, but here, everything's okay!"

As she was just about to hurt the child, someone came up and pushed her hard into a tree. "Girl, you have done too much harm to the dream world and the people inhabiting it. We warned you, didn't we? For disobeying our rules, you will be reprimanded with the most horrible punishment of all."

The girl could feel that she could no longer think, she could no longer control the dream world. The power to control her dreams was out of her hands now. She saw everyone she had hurt in the dream world come and submerge her into a darkness. Into a darkness she could never come out of. That was the lesson she learned that day. A lesson she learned a little too late.

Twelve Year Old Found Dead in Bed

"Twelve year old, Odile Mills was found dead this morning in her bed, due to convulsions that occurred during the night. Her parents claimed to have heard their child scream, "No, I'm sorry!" at night and that is when they rushed to her bedroom to find her body going up and down as though she were possessed. It was too late when the ambulance came... [Read Page 4 for the rest of the story]".

Children of the Corn

Not At All What I Expected. . .

Honestly, the movie was not that great (no wonder it got like what one star and a half), but the concept was good and I was scared and in suspense at many moments.

I'd watch it again though, it wasn't bad to the extent where I'd never watch it again (maybe I just love Stephen King which makes me biased). The graphics were not good, but let's face it, THIS WAS THE 80's!!!!

To sum it down into simpler words the movie was simply about satanic corn lovers.

I will say something though, Malachi is extremely scary and if you thought gingers had no soul before, just see Malachi and you will think they are even scarier.

The Fly

Yesterday, I saw a fantastic film that was absolutely amazing. . .

I don't remember how it came up, but my mom and I were talking about something similar to the topic, when she said, "That reminds me of this movie I saw called The Fly, I'll check it out for you when we go to the library." She did just that and yesterday we finally saw it. The guy at the library said that it was about AIDS but after watching it, I can't say I can make the connection. More so, I think it was a movie that was made to teach people that science is not all that it is cracked up to be. The acting was good, the make-up was not (you'd have to watch it to know what I mean), sometimes the continuity was not all that good (i.e. there's a scene where the main character has hair on his back and in the next scene he no longer has it.).

The movie was based on a short story that was written in Playboy. It is a sci-fi horror movie, I'd say more leaning towards the sci-fi aspect (duh!). There's a second part, but my mom said it's not that great. Still, I wouldn't mind checking it out.

The main characters are:

Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle. I thought he was very cute at the beginning and then gradually he began to disgust me.

Geena Davis as Veronica "Ronnie" Quaife. She was very good and at first I didn't like her character, but I ended up liking her very much.

John Getz as Stathis Borans. I did not like his character, because he was a pervert (sex maniac towards Veronica).

There were a few more characters, but really not that many. The whole story was mostly centered around Seth and Veronica.

Probably my favorite part is where Brundle starts becoming the fly and he realizes he's becoming a horrible thing and then calls it "the perfect disease". I mean he calls himself "Brundlefly". Does that not worry you? He basically lost his wits and if you see towards the end of the movie he really has. Everything went downhill for him. It really shows that people die for science, science could be the death of you. Maybe that's what the film was trying to say, that death and science go hand in hand. At least, that's how I'm interpreting it.

I say watch it if you're an intellectual person, it's not a movie that people will pick apart if they're only in it for the horror aspect. You have to love a movie for all it's parts. (I should be a critic!~)
