David Bowie died on the 10th of January this year. I thought it would be nice if I did a cover of my favorite song of his: "Let's Dance." It was the first song I ever had heard by him when I was ten years old and it immediately stuck with me because of how catchy I thought it was!
And I fell in love with the show. The theme song was interesting to me, too, but all I heard was ten seconds so as soon as I got on my laptop I looked up the theme song. I immediately loved the sound of it. It was a perfect fit for the show.
It took me a while to get the cover right, because I wanted it to be perfect. It was also really fun to do, so I hope you enjoy.
I had a problem posting the videos to my post yesterday, so I hope this works! Thanks for listening.
And have basically been listening to it on repeat all day. I recorded this a few days ago (also listening to it on repeat) and thought I should share it. This is one of the rare times when I feel like I did pretty good for once, but I still feel like I need so much improvement. I was going to do this cover with the instrumental version in the background, but somehow that didn't feel right, so I just sang it without anything. I hope you guys like it, because this song is really special to me right now. Hopefully, I'm able to convey that. Thank you so much. I also decided to post this video on YouTube before posting it on here, so...I mean...yeah. That was my first ever YouTube video =) Enjoy...or not.
Note: I watched the Director's Cut so I got 20 extra minutes that you may or may not get depending on whether you get the Director's Cut or not. Also, it was my first time watching this movie, so I never saw the original.
Amadeus is an American historical period/biographical drama made in 1984 and adapted from Peter Schaffer's stage play of the same name. This movie is about, you guessed it, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It talks about his life through the eyes of Antonio Salieri, the man who was extremely jealous of him (even considered to have killed him, as depicted in the film).
You really can't summarize a movie about someone's life, but here goes. If you know a lot about Mozart, then you'll know of the stuff that happened in his life that was taken out of the movie. I thought every detail they did mention though was necessary and made the movie absolutely great.
Basically the movie starts off with Salieri killing himself, because of the guilt he has towards killing Mozart. He then tells us a little about how HE wanted to get into music and then meeting Mozart. From there we see more into Mozart's life, his personality, his wife, his father, his father's death, his debt, his opera's (which were totally insane for the time period), his relationship with Salieri, his drinking problems, his illness, and of course, his death. This is all in the time frame of about two hours and a half, nearly three hours if you watch the director's cut.
Absolute perfection. 10/10. I loved this film. I love Mozart, so you know I had high expectations. I wanted it to be perfect, and it was. I really enjoyed it. There was not one dull moment and the suspense at the end when we near Mozart's death, beautiful and frightening. No wonder it won 8 Academy Awards!!! This movie made me feel so many emotions, it was truly an art. I felt like I was there. Like I knew these people.
And the acting. Now that was exceptional!
F. Murray Abraham as Antonio Salieri (You really do sense he hates Mozart. I mean just great acting. The make-up for him as an older man, wow!) Tom Hulce as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Great actor. He portrayed Mozart very well. His laugh in the movie. You will either love it or hate it. I loved it.)
Elizabeth Berridge as Constanze Mozart (I actually know very little about Mozart's wife. I did, however, know her description. She fit the description perfectly.)
There are many more actors. All very well, too, but these three are the main ones.
Also, might I mention. The costumes and soundtrack (Mozart, duh) were awesome. The costumes totally looked believable and the soundtrack, well they played each of those songs at the perfect time. Especially the ending. Every aspect of this movie put together made it a complete masterpiece.
When You're Strange is a 2009 documentary about the Doors with photographs and footage of the band. It is narrated by Johnny Depp.
The documentary is mainly about Jim Morrison, but it does talk about the Doors as well as how the Doors worked around Jim's alcoholism and his performances (which were getting more and more outrageous, because of the alcohol). Not only that it also showcases the free love movement and other events that occurred during the 60's. We really get a feel for who Jim was in this movie. We see past Jim the rock star and more into Jim the poet.
Here's the movie. I couldn't find another one for free, so you'll just have to bear with the spanish subtitles. Enjoy. It's very short 1 hour and a half. You won't even notice.
The Doors is a 1991 biographical film, on you guessed it, the band The Doors. Of course, the film is mostly portraying the life of Jim Morrison, the lead singer.
How do you summarize someone's life without spoiling it? Well, you don't. So let me give you the subjects this movie touches on and maybe a bit of a background on his life. If you're already a Doors fan, then you'll know about many of the main events in this film.
This movie is basically the epitome of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. I mean, it's wonderful. Very wonderful. I mean you really get a glimpse into this rockstar life, it's amazing.
Main points of film:
Young Jim Morrison seeing Native Americans in a car crash on the side of the road (if you've listened to some Doors songs, you'll notice this event is in some of his songs). This event pretty much changed his life. I mean after that, he grew up with it, and we see the image of the dead Native American he saw in the movie frequently. This would lead to another main point, which is the shaman. It's frequently spoken about in the film. I mean Morrison even incorporated shaman dances into his routine and songs and was highly influenced by it.
We see how the band was formed and how they got their name as well as Jim Morrison's beginnings as a UCLA film student/meeting Ray Manzarek.
We also see how Jim met Pamela Courson, Jim's long-term girlfriend and how he treated her. Good at times. Bad at times. Either way he was having sex with other people and married someone else, so I'd say he treated her pretty shitty in a romantic way. Other than that, I'm pretty sure he loved her above everyone else.
We see important parts in their career, from their start at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go, to their end at Whiskey-A-Go-Go for, coincidentally, singing "The End." We also see them get signed to Elektra Records to them playing at "The Ed Sullivan Show" to the two shows where Jim Morrison gets arrested.
We see Jim meeting Patricia Kennealy, the witch journalist lady, who is just so fucking ew. I hated her. I can't believe he married her over Pam.
Did I mention drugs??? Yeah, lots of drugs! So much drugs! I mean come on the 60s was like totally the decade of drugs.
Did I mention boobs? Yeah, lots of boobs. 60s was the decade of free-loving as well, so no one gave two shits back then. I mean watching that movie, totally made me feel like I time-traveled.
Of course, the most important scene is Morrison's death. He moves to France with Pam and Pam finds him dead in his tub. He was said to have died of heart failure *cough* drugs induced it *cough*
So that was about it, I mean we also touch the topics of: love, life, death, and perception. Probably something else I'm missing.
Main Characters (btw, they all did great. I mean I really believed I was seeing Jim's life play out): Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison Kevin Dillon as John Densmore Kyle MacLachlan as Ray Manzarek Frankey Whaley as Robby Krieger Meg Ryan as Pamela Courson Kathleen Quinlan as Patricia Kennealy
lol I'm pretty sure this post is long, but if you've made it this far.
So I've been working very hard to improve my voice (although, I'm still very critical of myself, which sucks) and I think it's time that I just stop caring. Of course, only to a certain extent.
Recording this song was very difficult. I did it on my phone and when I bluetoothed the file to my computer it didn't come out as an mp3 file, so I had to go convert it online. This is a lot more trouble than I have ever done for a song, but I'm glad I did. It turned out much clearer and with less background noises than in my recordings taken on the computer.
So in this song there are a lot of instrumental parts, but I didn't record with the music in the background, so there are going to be parts that sound so awkward. I HATE THOSE PARTS!!! Please listen though. Lol this is the most I've ever typed for a song, lol. Okay, so as always ENJOY!!!!!~
"Breakfast At Tiffany's" but I love Audrey Hepburn and I love this song, so when summer comes it's going to be on the top of my list of things I have to do. =) I hope you enjoy. I had a lot of fun covering this and I would really appreciate it if you just listened, because it's only 1 minute and 22 seconds which won't hurt you at all to waste.
This is one of those songs that immediately gets me happy when I listen to it, so I'd love to share it with my blog viewers. Hope I did good, because I want to do this song justice. ENJOY!~
I participated this year (and I will be participating every year) singing "Porque te vas" by Jeanette. It was really cool and I guess I should have posted this a lot sooner, because this all happened last week on 5/22/15.
I have been getting a lot of comments. One of my friends who was also in the show said her aunt cried when I was singing, because of how passionate I was. My Spanish teacher said that I surprised her, because I was always so quiet in class. I'm really glad I did it. =)
Line up:
1st- Girl singing Ave Maria
2nd- Folkloric Dancing by 4 girls (these were freshmen)
3rd- Japanese Dancing to Senbon Zakura!!!
4th- More Folkloric Dancing by 4 girls (these were upperclassmen)
5th- ME SINGING IN SPANISH!!!
6th- Group of 6 dancing to "Waka Waka" by Shakira
7th- Group of 8 (includes one of my friends) dancing to 2 songs
8th- 2 girls singing with 1 on guitar
9th- 4 dances from the Philippines.
10th- Ethiopian Dancing
11th- Bollywood Dancing
And that was that. =) I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting something here, but...too bad...
So I just had to cover it. Lol, I remember 6th grade, playing Lego Rock Band and hearing that song for the first time and just telling myself, "Wow, what is this?!" Well, enjoy!~
The music video, because the music video is awesome.
But I myself, feel I did not do such a great job on this cover. I can tell where all the flaws are and the bad thing about listening to the song while recording the song, is that I try to sound like whoever it is singing. Well, I would really appreciate some constructive criticism and also some praise for something I did good (if anything, come on I was not that bad, right?) The humming in the middle sucks though, lol. I hate having to hum during those awkward pauses...Well, enjoy. I think another cover will be posted today. Heck, if I can post a couple more, I'll be very happy. Maybe another facts about me post, because I love doing those, too. =)
I found these next 50 questions here if you would like to view them, but they will be right above my answer so don't worry about not knowing what exactly it is I'm answering to.
Q1. What was the last book you read?
A1. "My One Hundred Adventures" by Polly Horvath
Q2. Do you like roller coasters?
A2. Only some. I do not like the one's that hang upside down or do loops or any type of the sort. I do however enjoy simple fast one's. I do not like the feeling in my stomach, but nevertheless I go on, because it is a fun experience. Of course, I wouldn't recommend it if you're weak at heart. I am afraid of heights, but even so I still go on.
Q3. Day or night?
A3. Night is more calm. I don't like being out much, and being out is a DAY thing. I like it at night when there isn't much noise so I can concentrate on writing things.
Q4. What do you hear right now?
A4. I hear running water and my fingers typing these words.
Q5. What would you name your son or daughter if you had one?
A5. If I had a son I would name him Dylan and if I had a daughter I would name her Kalliope (lol not because of the story, it was honestly the first thing that came in my mind, I'm not so certain on what I would name my daughter).
Q6. Do you want kids? Why or why not?
A6. No, I don't want to PHYSICALLY have any, because that's a lot of pain to go through and it would be really hard to raise a kid when you're still a kid at heart. I would love to adopt when I'm thirty or forty though, seems like fun.
Q7. What's your favorite memory with your best friend(s)?
A7. I don't think I have a particular favorite memory, more so, a favorite year, which would be 6th grade year when we all met. It was nice. It was fun.
Q8. How many times did it take you to pass your driver's test?
A8. I have yet to take one, I hope that number is 1.
Q9. The scariest dream you had?
A9. Really, dreams where I get shot at are the scariest. I mostly have dreams about school these days so nothing very scary about that.
Q10. How tall are you?
A10. 5'5" (165.1 cm), but something leads me to believe I'm 5'4" and a half (163.8 cm).
Q11. The last thing you ate was...
A11. Rice
Q12. A band you want to see live is...
A12. Mindless Self Indulgence
Q13. Do you have a hero/someone you look up to? If so, who?
A13. Taylor Swift. She's not like other young girl celebrities in the media. Although, people criticize her for going out with too many boys and writing too many songs about them, they really don't understand that she's growing from it and that she's living life the way she wants to. It's not like she purposely asks for heartbreak, no one does. She's experiencing life and so many people experience the same things, so they're being hypocritical.
Q14. Do you like to swim?
A14. Who doesn't?
Q15. Things you look for in a guy/girl?
A15. In a girl (as a friend), I look for qualities such as a sense of humor and someone who does not care too much about what other's think of her. Similarly, in a guy I look for those same two qualities, but a lot more. I want a guy who can talk to me about nearly everything, a guy who is passionate even when it's something I don't really understand, a guy who likes music, and a guy who can listen to me when I need to vent, but can be there when I need to laugh.
Q16. Has a book ever upset you?
A16. asdfghjkl!!! YES!!! Only when it starts off really good and then sucks or when you've heard so much appraisal for it and it sucks. Very rarely, when a character dies and you loved the character though. I do get shocked, but I know the story can't move forward without that character dying, so....
Q17. What was the first instrument you learned to play?
A17. Piano.
Q18. Some of your hobbies include...
A18. Writing stories/songs, drawing, playing piano/guitar, singing, reading, running
Q19. How do you deal with anger?
A19. I'm very rarely angry. I do not like the feeling. If I am ever angry though, I just kind of want to be left alone.
Q20. Something you like about your appearance is...
A20. I like my smile, my eyes, my eyebrows, and my fingers. That's about it.
Q21. What was the last movie you watched?
A21. Metropolis (2001 anime film) not going to write a review on this for the blog, it'd just be useless considering you can read the wiki and it wouldn't detract from whatever I were to have said. I might have even spoiled it for you in the process.
Q22. Do you have a favorite ghost story? What about a personal ghost story?
A22. No and no.
Q23. Where is the farthest from home you've gone?
A23. I live in Los Angeles and I've been to a place at least six hours from there and that I would say is the farthest I've ever been. I don't know where it was, but I remember it was very hot!
Q24. Have you met anyone through Tumblr that you'd like to meet irl?
A24. I don't have a Tumblr, lol, I'm just using questions from someone's Tumblr page for my own discretion. I would love to meet some people from the Dollars website.
Q25. Do you look like your parents?
A25. If Biology tells me so. lol, I think I look like myself. I don't really care about genetics.
Q26. Things I have in common with my parents?
A26. I love reading.
Q27. What is to the right of you?
A27. My backpack
Q28. A favorite memory with a sibling?
A28. None
Q29. What is something you wish you'd done?
A29. At this moment I cannot recall, maybe asking someone out is something I should have done, but at this point I've given up on falling in love with someone.
Q30. What are some of your favorite blogs?
A30. lol, I don't really browse through blogs.
Q31. Do you sing in the shower?
A31. Yes
Q32. Something others have described you as...
A32. Freak, weirdo, strange, creep, and my personal favorite (not even kidding) myself. =)
Q33. Name of every pet you've had.
A33. I've only had one pet, a pet goldfish, and it's name was rainbowfish.
Q34. Your favorite superhero?
A34. Batman
Q35. Two of your fears are...
A35. Fear of heights and fear of dying.
Q36. What you're majoring in in college/what you plan to major in...
A36. Psychology
Q37. What is your favorite season?
A37. Fall
Q38. The best vacation you took?
A38. Vacation to San Diego.
Q39. Why your best friend is your best friend
A39. lol no one loves us, we're too weird for the weirdos
Q40. How did you come across your favorite band?
A40. My friend had shown me a song of theirs in an amv before and I didn't think much of it until I came across them again and then I decided, why not listen to all of their songs. Now, I'm a big Mindless Self Indulgence fan and I don't care what anyone thinks.
A48. None =) I get all my books from the library and return them, there's no point in keeping a book, especially if you buy a book and you don't like it.
Q49. How many aunts and uncles do you have?
A49. Dad's side: 1 Mom's side: 3, but that's not including all the many family members that we all consider either your cousins or your aunts and uncles, lol.
Q50. "Top 5" [Something]
A50. I will use "Top 5 Songs...of the Moment"
Here are five songs, I'll put the videos beneath them. They're all songs I'm currently really into. Take a listen. =) This is all in no particular order, btw.
1. "Mariage D'amour" - Frederic Chopin
2. "Moon River" - Audrey Hepburn
3. "Ready to Fall" - Rise Against
4. "Tom's Diner" - Suzanne Vega
5. "Song 2" - Blur
Thanks so much for reading!~ Can't wait for the next blog post, see ya next time!!!~
We are singing this song and I decided, why not do a cover of it for my blog. I am really happy with my cover of this song. It's a really beautiful song and I hope you guys can give me some constructive criticism on it. I'd really love to improve and hopefully one day, I can be up on stage singing for you guys.
I read this because I have a guitar and thought, "Maybe I'll learn something" or "Perhaps I can relate now that I have a guitar of my own." That's honestly all I thought. I never thought I'd end up liking it so much.
Brief Summary:
Geneva Tacey (the protagonist's mother) winds up getting into a very bad accident, which results in her getting a brain injury. After a few weeks of not seeing their mother, the Tacey family decides to go to the hospital. They do not see their mother. They see someone they have never seen before. After that visit, the Tacey family's father gets angry at the children for treating their mother like she wasn't their mother. Travis (the protagonist) starts rubbing his father the wrong way and from their the Tacey family's life goes downhill. Travis is kicked out of his home and before we know it the story is going through twists and turns.
So I won't spoil the rest for you, but really good story and you'll be reading with anticipation of what happens next. Their are sad moments, happy moments, and suspenseful moments. All moments are amazing and you really get into the story. I'd say even some adults would enjoy the story. All in all if you enjoy a good emotional story then this is a story for you.
Yes, I will probably do more of these and what better song to start off with than "Toxicity". I think I sound pretty weird in this one, especially at the end. Haha, please listen and if you're a SOAD fan and want a particular song sung next I will do it, because I don't really care what songs I sing as long as I like them and get to sing. ^_^
Ever Since My Ears Listened to this Wonderful Song...
I fell in love with it. It's a great song and I'm going to sing it at my multicultural at school (if I get selected), so I thought "why not just show the blog readers". Leave comments below about anything, I don't mind. Honestly, the more comments the better. Thanks so much guys. You're awesome!!!
Here is the original song lol the lyrics are in Spanish and French only sorry to those who can't read either language, there's always other websites:
I actually think I did pretty good, but I don't think anyone can make this song better than the original. I mean his voice is very unique so like I'll put my version and the original version so you can see. Also, like towards the middle there is a part where I say "yeah" and omg the fact that there is no background music--since I didn't want my voice to drown in the background of the original track--makes it sound really weird. In the original song, the yeah part sound awesome, but on me not so much. Haha. Enjoy and please leave some comments down below if you want me to cover a song (lol it can be anything, but I'll only choose it if I like it, so yes choose songs you like, but if I don't care for them I'm not picking them). Also, give me some constructive criticism/praise on my voice.
I Think Everyone Has This Completely Different Perception of What Music Is:
There are so many subtopics to what I'm asking. Let's start easy.
[Sorry, I'm definitely not an expert so you can't take my word on this, I'm only saying what I think and what seems right to me. All of this is my opinions.]
What is music?
mu·sic
ˈmyo͞ozik/
noun
vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
the art or science of composing or performing music.
a sound perceived as pleasingly harmonious.
2.
the written or printed signs representing vocal or instrumental sound.
the score or scores of a musical composition or compositions.
That seems to be the simple definition of it, but is that really all that music is? I think a lot of people would beg to differ. Sure, this is all the simple stuff, but I think music is more than just sounds that produce beauty, because music I like might not sound beautiful to others and vice versa.
Music Throughout History
Throughout history I'm sure music was meant to evolve with the times, but just like now there was probably the non-mainstream underground music. I'm sure back then it was something very scandalous (I mean like the 1700's lol, but I'm sure until the '60s underground music was very strange to others who weren't open to something new) too. Music is supposed to convey themes of what people are going through during those times or times before. Take the song "Orange Crush" by R.E.M. for example. That song is about a chemical defoliant used during the Vietnam War. Throughout history though, there will always be those recurring themes in music that we can all relate to. Love, breakups, friendship, death, depression, happiness. We will always have that throughout history, I doubt that will ever change. We will however get songs that are about things that are not so common and some of them become hits and some of them become something no one has heard of. I wonder why?
People Nowadays With Music
What I'm noticing nowadays is that people don't give anything a chance, they only let what other people tell them to listen to be the songs they hear. Sure, that's okay, but don't let someone else's playlist be your playlist. Even when people think they're being different, they're sometimes only doing it to be different, not necessarily because they like it and I hate when people ask me, "Why do you like that? No one else does." I like it because I do, should there be more of an explanation there?!?! No.
The Older Generation
Our parents. I really admire them, but they can be very close-minded, too. They'll only stick to what they grew up listening to not what we listen to, but if it weren't for my mom I don't think I'd be so open-minded to music, even if she won't try out my songs all the time. They do seem more open to music than kids these days do.
How Does Music Connect Us?
Well, it does that's obvious, but why? I think because some songs are so deep and people have a more emotional connection to the song then we think, the fact that someone else is able to relate can connect us. People are more attracted to those who listen to the same music as them, so why wouldn't it.
Why People Should Have A More Diverse Taste In Music
People should have a more diverse taste in music, because if you don't you will never be able to indulge in some great songs if you were just close-minded to one genre and only mainstream. People who only listen to non-mainstream music, should try out mainstream too, because their are some really cool popular songs out there and you just might be missing out. Music is a try-and-find-out process. You can try out a song and if you like it, that's great; if you don't, well you tried and found out it wasn't your cup of tea.
Why You Shouldn't Be Ashamed of the Music You Like
It's music. It's what you like and it shouldn't matter what anyone else says. It's absolutely pathetic to think people judge others based solely on music taste. If you love music so much, you should understand that everyone likes different things and we shouldn't all be into the same thing or else that would be boring.
Well, I tried!!! Thanks for reading!!! Leave some comments down below!!!~ Love you guys!
